Light Tutorial: In the Air

Next up on my photo recipe post is “In the Air”. This shot like “Urban BMX” was shot on a night out with the local photography club. This however was not done with studio lightning but only two small speedlites.

No fancy lightning on this one. It was done with one Canon Speedlite 580ex and a Canon Speedlite 580exII.
I used the Elinchrom skyport triggers to fire the Speedlites, if I remember correctly they were running on 1/16th power.

Again I used my trusty Canon EOS 5D Mark II this time I put on a Canon EF16-35L F2.8 II. I wanted a very wide point of view to get as much as possible in the frame but still be up and close to the action.

Settings for the shot: 1/250 sec. – F4 – iso200

With your setup, what’s the fastest sync speed you can achieve?

  3. theis says:

When I use the skyports the sync speed tops out at 1/200 sometimes I can get away with 1/250 and get a small black line at the bottom of the frame.
